field stone Honesdale PA
We discussed options–completely tare-out and re-build new, or just spend a couple days fixing it up. We went with a middle path: re-built most of the walls, re-level a few of the steps. Even though we did not do a complete re-build, I was able to add a bit of my style to the project. It almost looks like a job that I built from the ground up. In reality, it’s basically just a repair. I ended up re-leveling 7 out of the 9 steps, made them a more even tread too, as the steps originally varied from 4-9″. Now they are all about six inches, more comfortable and safer to walk on.
Honesdale and the surrounding area* is full of field stone walls, and the customer had some old field stone walls on his property. I was able to find a few good boulders on site and set them upright. So some of the walls end in upright boulders, some end with squared off corner-stones, stacked up to make proper wall-ends.

And that’s it! This was my first completed hardscape built after completing the Sculpture at Brookside Gardens. Next up is a dry stone wall in the Philly area, then a memorial bench in Chester county.
Stay tooned!
