Like a pebble mosaic–but it isn’t.
I always appreciated pebble mosaic paths. I also appreciate dry stone work. How do I combine these two loves of mine…..? Well, as you see, I’ve come up with a solution.
Stones here are set upright, like cobble stones, set deep into their foundations, so they stay in place, but also set in a flowing manner, similar to my spheres. I’ve been incorporating mosaic elements like this, into my flagstone work, for some years now–but this new project takes things to another level, being both larger and more detailed.
like a yin yang–but it isn’t
Dry stone mosaic. Left side: squares and rectangles, quarried stone in blue gray and olive gray. Right side: irregular shapes, wild harvested stone, in magenta and mustard tones. Betwixt ’em: various reclaimed stones, a meandering flowing movement, with dots and mixed colors.
Frost creating ice patterns on the stone. Like mineral beings, dreaming of past/future lives as plant beings.
Only releasing detail shots for the time being, as the house itself is under construction. I built stone work, with details like this, at all four sides of the house: two stone paths and two patios.
Will return when the house is closer to being complete and will add additional mosaic details–and photos that show the entire work. Soon enough!

Devin, I just discovered your amazing work while looking for information about silica paints. Your blog ost on the subject was very informative.
I am very impressed with the creativity and quality of your stone art. Ive seen a good amount of drystacked stone work and yours is among the best. Quite impressive.
Kent, I’m glad you found my blog helpful. I’m new to silicate paints myself, and interested to see where this leads. Thank you
