All Natural Log Cat Trees

Rustic cat Furniture, made from real tree branches

I had this idea in mind for awhile. Make a cat tree, but use flagstone scraps as the platforms. (Usually, I use natural edge cedar planks, see below.)

The main branch I had on hand for awhile…driving down the road on a windy day and whooosh! The entire top-half of a cedar tree comes crashing down into the middle of the road in front of me. Well, I just so happened to have a chainsaw in the back of my truck and the rest is, as they say, cat tree history.

So I had the branch sitting in my shop for a couple years before I got a chance to build something with it. I went with the cat tree, of course, and used some reclaimed bits of old flagstone, from a flagstone patio we repaired earlier in the year. Like all the cat trees, this one can also be used as a shelf. Since this one has a stone base and weighs more than the other trees, this one lends itself to outdoor usage–and can withstand very heavy winds without being knocked over. Good place to keep potted plants and stuff like that on display on the patio.

indoor climbing and fun, in a natural kitty environment

This cat tree does not have an actual “stand”, rather it gets bolted right to the wall. Takes up a lot less floor space that way

Also, of this one, like in the cat-tree above as well, there are no added branches–the platforms are all supported by branches the stem out from the main trunk that natural grew there. Some other cat trees, like the next one down, have some or most of their branches as add-ons, sections of branch that were added to the main trunk by drilling a hole to slot them into.

SOLD!

This one was made from a mix of hardwoods. Maple, birch, i really do not know for certain….but kitties like it–man, cats don’t even care what names we give for trees. Did you know that cats mostly meow at humans–but that meowing is not actually a mere imitation of human speech. They meow at each other rarely, mostly when they’re babies. Kittens meow for their mommy. Yes, for a couple years I bought into an urban myth that cats only meow at humans. Not true!

Sold! To Alice, the cat

I like this one, I just always have. So does Alice, the cat seen here reclining. I made with this tree from storm fallen branches and logs (same with all of my cat trees).

Made from red cedar, this cat tree preserves much of the natural character from the logs, but is still very smoothly put together, everything well-fitted. The branches that support the cat platforms are mostly original branches in the same position that they grew in. In the case of this cat tree, I believe there is a single branch added on, joined by mortise and tenon.

Natural stone, traditional stone masonry…with a bit of fun. We regularly do projects in the Main Line area, the Poconos, and West Chester New York, but we don’t mind visiting the mid-west, down south or the west coast either.
